Butler: Balance through gesture

Context

Butler began with an observation about service and movement. A skilled waiter balances objects not through force, but through posture, awareness, and subtle adjustment.

The project asked whether that behavior could be embedded into an object - five slender rods come together to form a solid leg, then fan outward near the top.

Process

The form was developed through proportional studies rather than added mass. Early explorations focused on how multiple elements could work together structurally, allowing the object to feel light while remaining sturdy and reliable.

By concentrating material where it mattered most and releasing it where it could open up, the structure gained both strength and visual lift.

Resolution

Butler resolves structure and gesture into a single, continuous expression. The result is an object that feels delicate yet dependable.
